1. when i got home with andrew saturday morning from picking him up at his friend paul's house he said, "hi, andrew. how was your sleepover?"
sounded like it just came straight out of a parents' mouth...maybe he's been spending too much time with me!
2. when chris and matthew (christopher's friend) pulled up to our house saturday night he said, "matthew, did you bring your ds?"
knowing that christopher always wants his friends to bring their ds when they come over.
3. he was riding his bike up and down the street with the neighborhood boys on sunday and ella and i were standing in our driveway. she had just picked a red rose from our rose bush. as he sped by, he yelled out, "pretty rose mom, go take it inside and put it in some water so it won't die!"
4. also, lately he and i have been talking about michael jackson in the car.
he has known about michael for awhile now.
(i did after all want to marry him and named our first dog after his top selling song, "thriller")
but, recently he's been asking about his brothers & sisters.
he asked me the other day what his brothers' names are, i could only remember tito & jermaine.
then a few days later he asked (in the car again) about michael's sisters.
it went something like this:
"mom, where do michael jackson's sisters live?
me: "in california."
"oh. mom, when the kids get off school lets drive to california and go and see his sisters."
me: "i don't know exactly where they live"
(knowing if i said something about not being able to go there would be major problems)
"mom, dad does."
simple as that, problem solved.
so maybe you had to be there for all of these....
to hear him say these things in that sweet little voice.
that voice that can also scream and whine and get real bratty...he is 3 years old.
can also be a voice that is thoughtful, loving, funny, and so darn cute.
some other one's i want to remember:
it's been awhile now, but he used to say, "mom, i can do it all by meeself".
and ella and i just love when he says 'matermelon' for watermelon.
the older kids will sometimes ask, 'what did i used to say when i was little?', and i can remember something for each of them. but i just like to have some of these little conversations documented so that i will remember to tell little john john about them when he's older. and because they just made me laugh/smile or so happy when they were actually happening.
oh, and we did get all that trimming done on saturday...
it was a nice cool weekend.
and the kids got in a lot of friend time, lots of sleepovers and sleepover bday parties.
i told chris, we're just getting it all done this weekend and so then we'll be good for awhile.
meaning, no more sleepovers...going or hosting - fun times, but we all need our sleep!
and our neighborhood has come alive again, now that the weather has changed and we all -
kids and parents hang out together outside...
it really is special - this neighborhood we live in.
